Abstract

Currently, 50% of people live in urban areas, which cover 2% of the Earth’s surface. By 2050, cities are expected to be home to 70% of the world’s population, still covering 2% of the Earth’s surface, while accounting for 80% of global CO2 emissions and 75% of total global energy consumption. As a result, cities are facing unprecedented challenges in the context of social and climate change. Can cities respond to these challenges—and if so, how? Prof. Dr. Drajić will guide us through the concept of smart cities that measure, learn, and manage, with particular emphasis on the professional and scientific challenges and opportunities.
